My mother was Jean A. Harper (1925-2003). She owned and bred several Arabian horses through the 1950s and ’60s (Temag, Mahrouss, Tasliya, Waziria, Tera al-Nar, Char Fad, Rabdan al-Azraq). She wrote several articles for Arabian Horse World and some other Arabian horse magazines in the late 1940s – early 1950s. She did extensive research and was in frequent contact with Homer Davenport, Bazy Tankersley and the Babsons.
Unfortunately, her copies of these articles along with the manuscript of her book in progress were stored in a damp basement and were found covered with mold and eaten by bugs some years later.
I am now looking for copies of the magazines where her work was published, but I don’t have a record of which articles she published in which magazines. I’m hoping someone at the Davenport Conservancy can help me out. Thank you.
I have been looking for info on Moliah (1911) and Hasiker (1914). were they part of the origional importation and if so what # are they?
Moliah (*Hamrah x *Wadduda) is AHA registration number 109. She was bred by the Davenport Desert Arabian Stud (Hingham Stock Farm), born in 1911. She was not part of the original importation, but was bred from two imports.
Hasiker (*Hamrah x *Reshan) is AHA registration number 268. She was bred by the Hingham Stock Farm, born in 1914. She was not part of the original importation, but was bred from two imports.
Horses imported to the US have an asterix in front of their name, and the asterix is part of the name of the horse.
